you know the promos are coming when your strange jurassic park style nightmares dont even compare to that other one you had last night of your history lecture. or when your in skool from 10 to 8 pretty much everyday or your bag is actually full of notes and nothing else or oh what the heck i wont bore you with the mundane rigours of the life of a singaporean student; especially the murderous exams that come towards the end of the year which are inexplicably called end of years. unless of course you want to add that nice little jingly nickname they give the annual promotional examinations in a (unsuccessful) bid to make it seem that much cuter and cuddly.
i mean what the hell do i care as to whether the sultans/priyayis/whatever elites had such giant headaches that they decided to give their colonial masters blowjobs- and serve the coffee after that? i dont, but does it matter? of course not! :) :) *beams* or as some retarded counterparts of mine put it (and i do mean RETARDED- socially and mentally) *bEAmZ/gRiNz/iM sUcH a fUckIng mOrOn i cAnt wRiTe pROpeRlY*

all my friends are dead
look for the album, by freddy gage. isnt the title just ah-doooor-ah-bel??? geeze louise there was so much affection dripping from that it would give marilyn manson a cardiac.
somebody needs to tell good old george bush that katrina isnt his new private secretary and that hurrimacanes- or fast wind as he so nicely puts it- have nothing to do with his gastric ailments. or that his mom has no business poking her soon to be cryogenically preserved nose into affairs of the state.
the death of one is a tragedy
eh bush likes to talk a lot huh. the man needs a typical indian grandmother with a weapon better than any lame old 'iron fist'. i mean come on! thats so cliched! try the made in india cowskin shoes- first rate, owned by grandmothers everywhere for beating their children who scold their grandchildren. whatever. or them chinese people, who americans think 'karaty' their kids when theyre bad, or malays who practise the same grandmother maternal protectorate doctorate mandate thing. like european people all over the world have no idea exactly how up to date we are; something pathetically sad considering how much more advanced we in singapore are than so many of them. running the risk of sounding nationalistic, i think we got it going the right way (dont get me wrong im still gonna try busting my way into the film industry overseas).
so the priyayis soiled their little diapers complaining how they dint get nuff respect, and so the brits werent that interested in malayan ketupat making classes. i think the whole concept of colonialism was a stupid excuse aimed at the so called advancement of asian countries- all after wiping out our heritage and culture. how many kids nowadays would prefer a madonards chisbeger happy mil (you get what i mean) to a good old plate of char kway teow? dont be shy now, or a stupid suck up like that fat boy in my primary two class (2C henry park pri sch) who proudly proclaimed that he hated sweets during his health education lesson, only to be caught two periods later sucking on a ring pop. his name was prashanth i think; and guess what? he remains fat to this day, affectionately known as 'penguin' in more notable social circles. i dont really care.
the general paper is tomorrow. three hours that coulda been better spent sleeping. anyhows it means that the promos (see? so jingly) start tomorrow.
well, here we go
i guess i'll see you on the other side

The blog was getting stagnant after a while what with everybody so busy over the promos so I thought I'd clear the dust abit.
Well, yes, the Youth Avenue Camp for next year needs facilitators from RJ. So just tell me if ya wanna volunteer for it.

What perspectives does the play offer on private and public corruption?
Measure for Measure raises the issue of corruption several times, especially with regard to the private and public image of several characters. On characters such as the Duke, Angelo, Lucio and Isabella the extent of such corruption is clearly demonstrated. Corruption in the case of measure for measure refers to the corruptive nature of power, sexual corruption, corruption through the sin of vanity as well as dual personalities in front of other characters as is the case for Lucio. The play however provides many cases to demonstrate that corruption occurs on both the public and private front, but on some occasions, only one of the sides. A certain character in public might act differently, more to the side of self interest perhaps, privately.
The first perspective the play offers is the corruptive nature of power, both on the private and public front, in the case of Angelo. Initially the city of Vienna is understood to be a cesspool of sin and depravity, best displayed through Pompeys statement "Does your worship mean to geld and splay all the youth of the city? . . . Truly, sir, in my poor opinion, they will to 't then.". He explains that it would be impossible to remove sexual desire and sin from the city, whilst the Duke, under his own rule knows this is the case when he says "liberty plucks justice by the nose, / The baby beats the nurse, and quite athwart / Goes all decorum". The corruptive influence of power is thereby demonstrated by Angelo as he imposes rigid laws immediately and with a large amount of severity immediately. Such an exercise of power on a city so full of sin, and the imposition of such harsh punishments so quickly lead me to believe that Angelo is corrupted by power, and its ability to put his beliefs into practise in the city at once. Isabella later expertly describes Angelos fault when she says "O, it is excellent / To have a giant's strength, but it is tyrannous / To use it like a giant", explaining that Angelo, imbued with great power, should demonstrate mercy as well. Considering how mercy is another virtue preached in the bible, this modification of rule under Christian precept can be seen as a deviation from the model of Christian virtue, and hence a corruption of sorts. She then carries on with another line that further proves her point on the corruptiv nature of power, "But man, proud man, / Dressed in a little brief authority, / Most ignorant of what he's most assured, / His glassy essence, like an angry ape / Plays such fantastic tricks before high heaven / As make the angels weep; who, with our spleens, / Would all themselves laugh mortal", as to how power makes man exercise it needlessly.
The other perspective of corruption is once again, displayed by the same character, Angelo. Angelo is sexually aroused by Isabella, and is in this corrupted by his power, and ability to use it to his own benefit in getting together with Isabella. He wants to have sex with her- what better way than with blackmail? When Angelo says "Plainly conceive, I love you.", he is met in return with Isabellas retort, "My brother did love Juliet,/And you tell me he shall die for 't." Angelo goes on to say "He shall noy, Isabel, if you give me love.". In other terms, Angelo feels free to ask Isabella for sex because he is aroused by her, but he feels that other people should not commit this deed of adultery, for which Claudio was sentenced to death. When it suits his needs, Angelo is willing to use his power to set Claudio free, but demonstrates his double standards and new sexual corruption privately now with Isabella. Yet publicly, he as pure and austere as ever, as seen when he replies to Isabellas claims that she will inform the public. We see this when he says "Who will believe thee, Isabel?/My unsoiled name, th'austereness of my life/..../Say what you can: my false o'erweighs your true". This is in itself an admission of his own guilt and corruption. Hence we see that publicly, Angelo appears uncorrupted, the symbol of truth and austere living- yet privately he is all about sex with Isabella; proving himself to be a fraud.
Another form of public corruption is seen in Isabella. As a nun to be desiring 'further restraint', it is her duty to extol and exemplify Christian virtue- yet she is corrupted in the sense that her virtuousity bears with it a great vanity. Christian virtue encourages humble behaviour, yet Isabella appears vain, letting the value of her chastity outweigh that of the life of her own brother. This is a form of private corruption and a clear marker of the state of the city- of how even the holy people of the city are corrupted in some way or the other, in this case, Isabellas over zealousness in protecting her chastity. However, when the focus is shifted to setting up Angelo to have sex with Mariana, she is seen to have no qualms as to the entire arrangement at all, and consents in helping the process on. This indicates her belief that her not having sex is more important than others not performing the same deed and hence shows that at the end of the day, Isabella is only thinking of herself. This is all summed up when Claudio says that "Death is a fearful thing." whilst Isabella replies with "And shamed life a hateful." This shows Isabellas great vanity in thinking of her chastity above that of her brothers life, and this view of her vanity is further exacerbated by her retort to Claudios plea "Sweet sister, let me live/.../That it becomes a virtue.", "O, you beast!/O faithless coward! O dishonest wretch!/.../No word to save thee.", as she tells Claudio off for pleading for his life with her in the bargain that is not really a sin as sex would be comitted to save a life, and that "Nature dispenses with the deed so far/That it becomes a virtue.". It is openly known that she will not have sex at all- only Angelo does not know this.
The last perspective explored with regards to corruption is that of Lucio. In private Lucio freely insults the Duke, not knowing that he is Friar Lodowick in disguise."Who, not the Duke? Yes, your beggar of fifty;/.../too, that let me inform you." says Lucio, as he freely debases the Duke private. Yet when the Duke reappears in the city, all this is pushed away as Lucio carries on to suck up to the Duke until discovered.
Measure for Measure is full of perspectives on corruption, but most interesting are those where either the private or public forms of corruption are brought to light; and in some cases the differences in both. Sexual corruption, and the corruptive nature of power are also provided various outlets as Shakespeare perhaps endeavours to display a sign of the times in his writings, his discomfiture with public figures and how different they are privately- a scenario that applies to real life to a frightening degree.

very nice work people, ya guys make me proud :p Haha, my whole holidays have been a struggle to get my work done, not because I don't want to. I wish I could spend my whole week doing homework and mugging but strangely, my dad (who is a drum teacher) and my ma (who has like flexible working time) have also decided to take a holiday for the week. That means lots of going out and family stuff, my ma's really heavy on stuff like this. But I have managed to fit in quite alot of work though since I'm not doing history for the entire week. Here goes:
- finished conrad just in time for butler
- near the end of Woman Warrior (that book gives me this really strange feeling)
- MATH!! Haha, ok, alot of questions I can't do but thanks to geri, kris and sometimes liyana, I could do alot of questions hitherto left undone.
- read all m4m readings
- internalizing frost (that sounds gross but I can't bring myself to make notes again since I lost it, will have to put it all in my head like hist)
Which reminds me, I haven't done that butler essay and I haven't touched econs though I'd like to have done my tys. Ok, must work now. Esp. with my ma working now. Have 2 hours to work before my sis comes back from school and we go out AGAIN! Argh!

come here- my star is fading
how it was my beginning and end; and meant the most- descriptive of the times- time which flashed by in a blur, moving too quickly to be appreciated, savoured like a good wine.
im on the way back down
what is and was when its all nothing- of no consequence- anymore; and remembering when it ever was of any detail, blurry though it may be, but still there, somewhere; to live memories at night.
and then those funny, familiar, forgotten feelings, start walking, all over my mind
think back to when everything was free, fast and easy- and now when the undercurrent threatens to pull you away, every tug trying to drown you beneath a superficial surface- and then again to how it is and isnt; dont fight it- you'll lose; just live harder, faster, and how you want to live. dont conform, we are who we are and keep the you that nobody else needs to judge- that self that is. the spirit is a marvellous thing; dont chain it, hide it, confine it- release.
stuck on the edge
so take a step forward and plunge- fall face first through that deep black night and feel the cool wind whip through your hair and against your face; feel the fear well up and dissipate with the knowledge that this is it- all you've been waiting for- and forget everything else to revel in the wondrous beauty of being- you; and then stop, inches above the sandy shore before taking the dive into the warm wet of the sea to lie on the beach and be with the stars, a bit of wind, and the dark blue sky.
and then i come back; to where i am; and look around. another sunday night has come by- and the dew carries the scent of grass upwards to the sky it will never reach; and yet i am already there- my mind is with you, sky sister; watching you paint your trails of white and gray on your warm beautiful purple self. i was ever in love; i had an affair with the sky.
warm yellow
and so the moon is revealed, casting a warm silvery beam down towards me as wet grass spreads rays of soothing cool comfort through my form; and illuminate with greater care than the glow of the industrial street lights burst to life hours ago. the trees sleep and the sky watches over us all- for she and i are one; and i was named for her- akash in hindi is sky.
and i leave my writings by this safe little haven, safe for the knowledge that it is mine alone, the secret i share with her above; and none else.

okay before i get my butt to studying at venezia i should clear the dust and cobwebs that have taken over one-dee-fullDOTblogspotDOTcom!
i just spent my morning clearing my desk, which hasn't been THIS clean since like the start of last year. after the o's i left all my olevel stuff to rot and only started throwing things out THIS YEAR when school reopened. hahaha
i hate to say this but my hols have been
EFF-YOU-ANN (f-u-n, i mean) so far :D
i wish that wasn't academic crime (law of sept hols= EXAM PREP, or else!!!!)
it's monday and it's time to rev up the engine
i'm outta here!
what happened to everybody? *sigh* lemme air out a bit here ok? Here goes:
I sms-ed my two best friends to go out with me to do stuff and well, both didn't reply. So I called them up and both told me they had to spend the whole week studying for their promos and that we can't come up together to study together even. I mean, I understand the need to study but shit, not even one day to come together when we've spent like everyday of four years together?! It just sucks and the fact is that we all live near each other. Then there is also the fact that none of them seems too enthu about it and it's almost me whose organizing stuff so that we can all meet. It gets tiring after a while ya know. Especially when ya see how one of them is so enthu over her new jc friends and so tired out when it comes to meeting her old sec sch friends who she knows way longer by the way!? Sheesh, I'm so pissed off. Bad enough to have been stood up once by one of them and that was the first time anyone dared stand me up but now, argh, it's a bloody holiday for goodness sake. Not even a day to be spent in fun? They don't even have church to go to! And so it starts, I have to see my old bestest friends drift away from me and through no fault of mine, mind you. I mean come on, ya know what happens when ya ignore ya old friends for long stretches of time? They die, literally. I should know.
So people, pay attention to ya old sec friends if they aren't in the same school as ya because two months down the road, both of ya will gladly lose contact with each other. On a different note, I can't believe I wasted so much time trying to organize something when I could have finished heart of darkness which from the first few words, is prose that's gonna be hell but which I'm sure is really great.
